Kimball top local finisher; Londonderry girls 8th

The Eagle-Tribune

---- — CUMBERLAND, MAINE — It’s been an up and down season for Timberlane senior Hannah Kimball, but it — and her cross country career — ended on a high note yesterday at the New England Meet.

Kimball led all local runners, finishing 34th overall in a time of 20:06.86 over the difficult 5K course. She had run a strong race at the Division 1 meet, coming in sixth at rugged Derryfield Park, but she struggled last week at the easier Meet of Champions course in Nashua. So she may run better on the more challenging courses.

Team-wise, Londonderry placed a solid eighth but, for the first time in weeks, it finished behind rival Bishop Guertin, which was seventh. Colleen Kennedy led the Lancers, coming in 68th in 20:45.42 with Amanda Szymanski next at 105.

Freshman Ariel Vaillancourt ran a superb race for Pinkerton and was the area’s second finisher, coming in 61st in 20:38.99.

Barrington, R.I., was an impressive winner for top team honors with 75 points with New Hampshire rising power Coe-Brown second with 132.

Lancers edge rivals

Londonderry’s boys have been nipping at the heels of Pinkerton all fall and yesterday they overcame the Astros at the New England meet.

In a meet dominated by Rhode Island powerhouse Bishop Hendricken, the Lancers finished 15th in the 30-team field, three places in front of Pinkerton. Both were well behind New Hampshire schools Souhegan and Bedford, which finished third and fourth respectively.

Pinkerton’s Patrick Chabot, who has been consistent all year, led all local runners by placing 27th in 17:01.04, but rising junior Damon Kilgore was 44th in 17:13.62 for the Lancers and classmate Grant McAuliffe was 77th and senior Josh Leahy was 86th. Chris Poggi was 84th for Pinkerton.

The top individual New Hampshire runner was Coe-Brown junior Jeremy Brassard, who was 19th.
