---- — LAWRENCE — U.S. Sen Elizabeth Warren will deliver the oath of office to Mayor-elect Daniel Rivera at a public ceremony outside City Hall at noon on Jan. 3, adding a chapter to a friendship that began when Rivera served as a senior adviser for Latino outreach to her Senate campaign last year.

Warren endorsed Rivera in the last days of his campaign to unseat Mayor William Lantigua, shining a statewide spotlight on the race and prompting a protest from Lantigua.

"I'm not only fighting against the local opposition," Lantigua told a Boston television news station. "I'm fighting against a federal senator."

Warren's visit will make the inauguration the second in a row to attract a statewide politician. Four years ago, Gov. Deval Patrick attended Lantigua's inauguration.

Rivera's inauguration ceremony will begin two days of events, including a blanket drive for needy families and a reception at City Hall following the ceremony, then a gala at the Lawrence Elks Club at 7 that night. Tickets to the Elks Club event are $50 and can be purchased on-line at www.eventbrite.com.

On Saturday, Jan. 4, Rivera will host a day for families at Campagnone Common across Common Street from City Hall that will include ice skating and face-painting.
