WINDHAM — Jimmy Morgan of Windham will compete in the U.S. Figure Skating National Championship in Boston in Jan. 5-12.
A 2010 graduate of Salem High School, Morgan is a senior at Boston University who competes in the pairs competition.
The top two teams will advance to the Winter Olympic Games in Russia.
A call for art in Methuen
METHUEN — The Methuen Cultural Council is looking for a logo to use on the web and in print. In order to get the best logo possible, MCC is sponsoring a logo contest.
The contest is open to all Methuen residents.
Below are the contest guidelines:
Subject: Anything that embodies Methuen’s cultural spirit and community. It could be a recognizable landmark or just a concept. Be as creative as you like. Logo must include the words “Methuen Cultural Council.”
Style: Any sort of painting, photograph, illustration, digital art or drawing, as long as it is now a digital file.
Specs: Color digital image at 300 dpi and at least 5 inches wide and 3 inches tall. Larger is OK.
Submission fee: None.
Deadline: Artwork must be received by Dec. 31.
Prize: $100 cash prize and trophy featuring your logo.

NECC courses offered online
HAVERHILL — With gasoline prices high and personal time at an all-time low, now might be the time to explore taking an online, hybrid (a blend of web-based learning with traditional face to face interaction) or web-enhanced class or classes through Northern Essex Community College’s distance learning program.
NECC offers 14 online degree programs and seven certificates. For the spring semester, which begins Jan. 22, students can select from 87 online courses, 173 web-enhanced courses and 102 web-hybrid courses. Distance learning courses range in topics from accounting to computer applications, public speaking, creative writing, meteorology, and ethics to name a few.
