Registered Democrats in Andover to caucus at library on Monday

The Eagle-Tribune

---- — Andover’s registered Democrats will be holding their annual caucus to elect delegates to the 2014 Massachusetts Democratic Convention on Monday at 6:30 p.m. at Memorial Hall Library, 2 North Main St. Doors open at 6:15 p.m. and will close at 6:45.

The town will elect 17 delegates and three alternates, divided equally between men and women, to attend the state Democratic convention on Friday and Saturday, June 13 and 14, at the DCU Center in Worcester. At that time, Democrats from across the state will gather to endorse statewide candidates.

The local caucus is open to all registered Democrats in town. All ballots will be written and secret. Those not elected as a delegate or alternate who meet the qualifications may apply to be add-on delegates in the following categories: youth, minority and disabled.

The Andover Democratic Town Committee is also preparing to elect a new leader. Chairwoman Patricia Commane has announced she is stepping down after five years at the helm of the group.

Andover Street resident Kate Machet will be nominated at the next meeting to replace Commane. Machet is a former Obama Fellow and has been involved in helping to elect Democrats at all levels of government.

Commane will serve through the caucus. For more information, call her at 978-474-6047.
