---- — NORTH ANDOVER — The School Committee met behind closed doors last night to talk about strategy for negotiations with the North Andover Teachers’ Association.

School Committee Chairman Stanley Limpert said an open meeting would have hurt the board’s position in the talks.

The teachers and the committee began negotiations a few weeks ago. School Committee members Andrew McDevitt and Laurie Burzlaff are the board’s negotiators.

North Andover has about 350 teachers. Their average salary is $69,500 per year, according to School Business Administrator James Mealey.

The teachers have a three-year contract which will expire June 30. Between 2008 and 2011, they had a series of one-year agreements. Jane Broderick, the Kittredge School fifth-grade teacher who heads the union, said a few weeks ago she was confident the collective bargaining would be done in an amicable fashion.
