LAWRENCE — Police said a 21-year-old Methuen man allegedly raped a 15-year-old girl while his friend recorded the act on his cell phone.
The alleged rape occurred May 10 in Methuen and followed several hours of drinking and synthetic marijuana smoking with a group of teenage girls, according to a police report.
Michael Koshar Jr., of 7 Washington Court, was arrested by Methuen police Thursday night and charged with child rape.
Koshar was arraigned yesterday in Lawrence District Court alongside Michael Gosselin, 23, of 197 Exchange St., Lawrence. Gosselin was also arrested Thursday and has been charged with two counts of possession of child pornography and two counts of showing obscene matter to a minor.
Both men are under review for indictment by the District Attorney’s office, prosecutor Michelle Defeo said yesterday.
Judge Lynn Rooney ordered Koshar, who has Asperger’s syndrome, held on $2,000 bail. Gosselin, who was convicted in 2011 for indecent assault and battery on a child under 14, was ordered held on $50,000 bail.
Upon posting bail, both men were ordered to have no contact with the victim, the witnesses, or with any children under age 16. Koshar was also ordered to report daily to the court’s Probation Department.
Koshar and Gosselin are scheduled to appear in court June 19 for a probable cause hearing.
The alleged rape victim came to the Methuen police station Thursday to report a past sexual assault, according to an incident report written by Det. Thomas McMenamon Jr.
The victim told police she was raped May 10. She and her two friends were hanging out with Koshar and Gosselin at Greycourt Park behind Methuen City Hall. “After a few hours of smoking and drinking,” the group drove to Koshar’s house.
After her friends left, the victim recalled going upstairs to a bedroom. The victim told police she smoked synthetic marijuana and drank a half bottle of vodka. She only remembered some parts of the night and did not recall having sex.
