METHUEN — City police officer John Santoro has been named 2011 Massachusetts Emergency Manager of the Year.
Santoro serves as Methuen's emergency management director.
He was selected as the state's Emergency Manager of the Year by the Northeast States Emergency Consortium (NESEC) .
"One of the first things I did when I took office was to revamp Methuen's Emergency Management plan," said Mayor William Manzi. "John played a crucial role in the implementation of that plan. Over the past five years he has helped me lead the city through several emergencies including two major floods, an ice storm and a gas outage that left many without heat in the winter. In my opinion he is deserving of this award and I congratulate him on behalf of the city."
