Three-vehicle crash snares up traffic
ANDOVER — No injuries were reported in a three-car crash involving a tractor trailer on Interstate 495 northbound yesterday afternoon.
Initial scanner reports at around 2 p.m. said the accident involved a tractor trailer that rolled over, but crews arriving at the scene saw something completely different, according to State Police Trooper Todd Nolan.
Namely, no tractor trailer had rolled over.
“It wasn’t as serious as it sounded,” Nolan said. “Two vehicles were towed. The tractor trailer left under its own power.”
No injuries were reported in the crash, according to Nolan. The accident took place at the I-495/Chandler Road overpass.
While the accident was relatively minor, the impact to traffic at the earliest moments of rush hour was significant — with cars slowed down beyond the I-495 interchange with I-93, located about a mile south of the crash.
Traffic was also slightly backed up on I-93 northbound, mostly to cars trying to get onto I-495 north.
The scene was cleared by 2:30 p.m.
