Police: Alert store employees help officers catch two suspects

NORTH ANDOVER — Acting on information provided by alert store employees, officers arrested a man on drug charges, then two hours later issued a summons to a suspected shoplifter Saturday afternoon, according to the police log.

An employee at a store in the North Andover Mall on Winthrop Avenue reported possible drug activity in a car in the parking lot at 2:25 p.m. Officer Jason Wedge investigated and arrested Benjamin Camacho, 35, of 568 Bay Road, Hamilton, on charges of driving under the influence of drugs, possession of heroin and driving after license suspension.

A worker at Rite Aid, 525 Turnpike St., called police at 4:19 p.m. and reported a woman had taken merchandise without paying for it and drove away. Officer William Lynch investigated and issued a summons to Mary Kingsley, 44, of 4221 Evergreen Drive, Wilmington, charging her with shoplifting.



Accident: Injury reported, one car towed, River Road, 7:39 a.m.

Vandalism: North Main Street, 10:14 a.m.

House break: Bailey Road, 2:46 p.m.



Stone thrown through car window: 46 Foster St., 6:50 a.m.

Larceny: Laser Craze, 1600 Osgood St., 11:04 a.m.

Citation issued for speeding: Colonial Avenue and Turnpike Street, 1:28 p.m.

Larceny: Kohl’s Department Store, 360 Winthrop Ave., 5:55 p.m.


Citation issued for speeding: near 1140 Osgood St., 7:46 a.m.

Larceny: Peabody Supply, 25 Commerce Way, 10:36 a.m.

Arrest: Michael Allen Searles, 31, of 77 South Union St., Lawrence, driving after license suspension, inspection violation, driving an unregistered vehicle, driving an uninsured vehicle, Massachusetts Avenue and I-495, 11:34 a.m.

Citation issued for speeding: Berkeley Road and Turnpike Street, 9:19 p.m.
