NORTH ANDOVER — Young people interested in flight will make their way to Lawrence Municipal Airport on June 5 for a Young Eagles Rally.
The airport will join with the Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 106 to sponsor the event, open to kids ages 8 to 17.
Flights take off starting at 10 a.m. Registration is from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the terminal. The rain date is Sunday, June 6.
The rally is part of the EAA Young Eagles program, established in 1992 to interest youngsters in aviation.
Pilots will tell about the airplanes, allowing youngsters to learn how planes work and how pilots ensure flight safety.
After the flight, youngsters will receive a certificate making them an official Young Eagle and many will have their FAA-approved logbook filled out by the pilot. Their name will be entered into the "World's Largest Logbook," which is on permanent display at the EAA Air Adventure Museum in Oshkosh, Wis. The logbook also is accessible at www.youngeagles.org. Parental or guardian signed approval must be made on documentation before or at the event.
Lawrence Municipal Airport is on Sutton Street. More information about EAA and the EAA Young Eagles program is available at www.eaa.org, www.youngeagles.org, or by contacting Tom Walsh at 978-462-4782 or pswalsh@comcast.net.
