ANDOVER — A set of drug-related arrests took an interesting turn this week after one of the suspects allegedly tried stashing cocaine in a cruiser, according to police.
Andover Police made three arrests on Dascomb Road Tuesday evening, though they only went to the scene to make a single warrant arrest, according to Andover Police Lt. Eddie Guy.
Their plan was to arrest Paul Shannon, 28, of 22 Volk Road in Dedham on a probation surrender warrant.
When police arrived at the scene, “there was a vehicle at that particular location,” Guy said. “When the officers approached the motor vehicle, (two other) subjects were attempting to utilize narcotics.”
After searching the two people in the vehicle, police recovered 15 nuerotin pills, percocet pills and one clonazepam pill. The two people were attempting to smoke the narcotics, Guy said.
Arrested from the vehicle were Daniel Mulkern, 31, of 69 Carroll St., West Roxbury, and Cobi Deflurin, 21, of 72 Schiller Road, Dedham.
After bringing the three arrested back to the station, there was another surprise waiting for them, according to Guy.
“Once they transported the individuals back to the police department, a search of the back of the cruisers ended up uncovering a bag of cocaine,” Guy said.
The bag was found wedged between the cruiser’s seats, where Mulkern was sitting, according to Guy. How much was in the bag wasn’t available yesterday.
Deflurin was charged with possession of a class A drug and possession of a class B drug. Following the discovery of the bag of cocaine, Mulkern was charged with two counts of possession of a class B drug and a single count of possession of a class C drug.
Shannon, who was working on a home at the scene, was charged only on the warrant, according to Guy.
Police search every vehicle after a prisoner is transported, and at the beginning of every shift attached to a vehicle, Guy said.
