---- — METHUEN — The Lawrence chapter of the Disabled American Veterans is raising money with a Forget-Me-Not day at Mann’s Orchard tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The fund raiser is for the Disabled American Veterans chapter, which reaches out to help struggling veterans with assistance and help signing up for and understanding state and federal veterans services. The group also will be presenting Mann’s Orchard with a plaque thanking them for their support.
$27K raised for stadium project
METHUEN — The rebooted fund raising to upgrade Nicholson Stadium is off to a promising start. A tickets-only dinner raised more than $27,000, said Steve Saba, chairman of the committee organized to raise the money. All 200 tickets sold for the Sept. 22 dinner at the Sons of Italy, and Saba said they easily could have sold another 200 if they were not constrained by space. Money came in not only from tickets for the dinner, but in donations that day as well. “It was a great mix from the community,” Saba said.
The group, the Methuen Athletic Improvement Commission, is planning more fund raisers for October, but has not set any dates yet. The goal is to raise money to match and supplement state grants to build a new clubhouse, replace the visitors bleachers and install a turf field. Later projects could include improvements to other fields.
Anyone interested in getting involved can email Saba at email@example.com.
