---- — NORTH ANDOVER — Students at Kittredge School will probably have a gymnasium of their own by the time they return from April vacation, said School Committee Chairman Stanley Limpert.
He said the Planning Board is scheduled to review the project at its meeting tonight at 7.
Limpert, who also heads the School Building Committee, reported on the progress of the gym at Thursday night’s School Committee meeting. The School Building Committee is overseeing the project.
The town recently awarded the contract to build the gym to Seaver Construction Co., which submitted the lowest bid of $789,000. The annual Town Meeting on May 17 approved $810,000 for construction of the gym and local officials recently transferred another $50,000 from the money that was approved for building a new school administration headquarters.
The transfer will enable the town to equip the new gym with basketball hoops and padding for the walls to reduce the risk of injuries, but extra help is needed to install a hardwood floor, according to Kittredge Principal Richard Cushing.
That’s where a team of teachers and parents comes into play. They have organized a fundraiser, Corks for Courts, an evening of wine tasting and appetizers, which will take place tomorrow, 5 to 8 p.m., at Stachey’s Pizza, 21 High St.
Tickets cost $75 each. To buy a ticket, contact Cheryl Means at email@example.com or 978-387-6170. To contribute to the direct donation campaign, visit www.crowdrise.com/KittredgeGymnasium.
