---- — NORTH ANDOVER — A man charged with his third offense of drunk driving was ordered held without bail until his arraignment Thursday.
Jason Munroe, 43, of 21 Fernview Ave., apartment 10, was arrested early Saturday morning after the vehicle he was driving knocked over a fire hydrant near his home, according to police. Officer Jason Wedge arrested Munroe at his apartment after determining that the damage to the front end of his vehicle indicated he had struck the hydrant, according to police Lt. Charles Gray.
Munroe was taken to Middleton jail and held on cash bail after he was booked Saturday morning. He was expected to be arraigned Monday or Tuesday but his arraignment was postponed until Thursday, according to an official at Lawrence District Court.
Gray said he did not know why Munroe’s arraignment was postponed.
Munroe is charged with drunk driving, third offense and leaving the scene of an accident after causing property damage.
The hydrant, located near the entrance of the Heritage Green apartments at Fernview Avenue and Chickering Road (Route 125), was shorn from the pipe at its base. It was still lying on the ground Tuesday afternoon.
The large apartment complex is protected by several other hydrants.
