METHUEN — Owners of Lawton’s Famous Frankfurters plan to bring back their beloved hot dogs and restaurant to the city of Methuen.
“I am really excited about it,” Joanne Curley said.
Curley is still in the middle of getting approval from the city and building permits. While she wouldn’t say where the exact location will be pending approval, she did say it will be ideal to her loyal customers.
“I think it’s going to turn out great. Methuen is not that far from Lawrence so I still think our customers will come out to the new location,” Curley said.
Curley expects she will be getting approval by mid October. Assuming all goes smoothly, she is hoping to open early spring.
“Just in time for baseball season,” Scott Curley joked.
The Curleys are a little sad that they will no longer be in Lawrence.
“It’s sad that we will no longer be in Lawrence but I think this change will be a good thing overall for us,” she said.
Lawrence Dog Haus & Grille recently opened at Lawton’s former location in Lawrence, but that is where the similarities end.
“We just want our customers to know that while it’s the former location, we are not affiliated with them in any way. We still have the same name and the special recipe and we plan to use both in Methuen,” she said.
Curley said she has been looking for a new location ever since she left Lawrence.
“We have been wanting to get back in business, it just takes some time. We wanted to make sure it was the perfect location for our customers and our workers,” she said. “We have always had the intention of re-opening.”
“Everywhere I go, the first thing people say to me is ‘when are you going to open up Lawtons again?’’ Scott Curley said. “There are people out their waiting for us to come back and we can’t wait.”
