Amesbury man dies in Hampton pedestrian accident

HAMPTON, N.H. — An Amesbury man died Monday after being struck by an alleged drunken driver early Sunday morning.

Police identified the victim as Charles Sayre, 57.

Police responded at 1 a.m. on Sunday to the intersection of Ocean Boulevard and Highland Avenue, where they found a pedestrian had been struck by a 2003 Honda Civic. Sayre had serious injuries and was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital, where he later died.

After an on-scene investigation, police arrested Danielle F. Kooyoomjian, 29, of Hampton and charged her with aggravated driving while intoxicated.

In an obituary in today’s edition of the Eagle Tribune’s sister newspaper, The Daily News, Sayre is described as a loving and dedicated father to his five children, Alexander, William, Gabriel, Jackson and Sonia, all of Amesbury. He was an Army veteran, having served from 1975-1977.

He also was described as a passionate cook whose signature dishes were lasagna, meatloaf, banana bread and strawberry cake.

He worked in the financial services division of the Internal Revenue Service office in Andover for many years.

Visiting hours will be held in the Highland Street Chapel of Paul C. Rogers & Sons Family Funeral Home, 2 Hillside Ave., Amesbury, on Friday from 6-8 p.m., with his funeral at the funeral home Saturday at 11 a.m.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact the Hampton Police Department at 603-929-4444 or the Crimeline for the Hamptons at 603-929-1222.
