No charges in Salem pedestrian accident

The Eagle-Tribune

---- — SALEM — A Methuen woman will not face charges after she struck a pedestrian Saturday night on Cluff Crossing Road.

Joseph Noviello, 28, of Salem was wearing dark clothing and was “possibly intoxicated,” police said when he crossed Cluff Crossing Road just past 9 p.m.

He was struck by a vehicle driven by Debra Ciulla of Methuen.

Noviello sustained severe head injuries and was taken to Lawrence General Hospital. Police said he was carrying a case of beer when he was struck.

Ciulla cooperated with police and is not facing charges.

Police said the facts that Noviello was wearing dark clothing, walked into traffic and may have been drinking all contributed to the accident.

The Salem police Traffic Accident Reconstruction team responded to the scene and is investigating.
