‘Todd’ and tyranny
Anyone who thinks this is about “Sweeney Todd” is ignoring the bigger picture. For decades, the Timberlane administration has ruled with an iron fist, removing autonomy from students, parents and, especially, teachers. Even talking to media, you’re faced with disciplinary measures, whether you’re a student or an adult. This is about fighting against tyranny and heavy-handedness and not submitting to the old-world, puritanist lectures of lockstep obedience.
It’s more than obvious that the negative comments about the Timberlane Performing Arts Center are made by a few uneducated School Board members. Uptight, uneducated opinions are destroying a very successful theater program, run by the most experienced, highly respected people in high school productions. They are making a laughingstock of our of our district. No one spoke against “Sweeney Todd” at the open forum. The community stands behind the PAC. High school theater is a personal choice for each individual. If you don’t like a show, you don’t have to audition or go see it. The PAC puts on several shows a years which is unusual for a High school. There’s plenty of shows that may make your child feel “comfortable.” School Board, please concentrate on the educational problems of the district and not after-school programs. “Sweeney Todd” will be a sold-out show!
World’s worst hacks
After being warned and having many meetings, the taxi drivers here in Lawrence continue to stop in the middle of the street because it’s too much work to pull to the curb. They think that putting on their emergency blinkers makes it OK. Almost none of them comes to a complete stop when turning right on red, and they still honk their horns constantly until the customer comes out, no matter what time of day or night. I see this every day, all day. Why don’t the police see it?
