Courtney Carver our Gymnast of the Year

Andover High junior Courtney Carver can turn it on when the lights are their brightest.

“She really shines at the big meets,” said Andover High coach Tracy Vadala. “She’s one of those gymnasts that likes to show off her talents in the big competitions. You can see it in her big smile. And she loves to compete.”

Carver led Andover to a second-place finish at the state meet, where she took second in the all-around. She didn’t finish lower than ninth in all the events she competed in. She took second-place finishes in both the vault (9.425) and beam (9.55).

She also finished second in the all-around at the North Sectional.

“Her tumbling is very difficult and strong,” said Vadala. “Another thing that stands out about her is that she is a smart gymnast. She not only knows the rules but she knows what the judges are looking for. She’s able to think on her feet if she needed to add a connection or move a skill around in her routine to get the most amount of points.”

Carver, a Level 10 gymnast, also finished third in the overall at New Englands.

Carver will have the ability to compete in college, probably at a Division 2 or 3 school, according to her coach. She has already been named captain for next season.

She competes on the Andover High spring track team in the pole vault.
