Both Hall and Melander are 2010 graduates and will each receive $1,000.

The James Gammie Memorial Scholarship is in memory of the former North Andover resident, Finance Committee member, and member of the North Andover Republican Town Committee.

NECC sleep technology program now online

Northern Essex Community College is partnering with three community colleges from across the state — Bunker Hill (Boston), Mass Bay (Wellesley), and Quinsigamond (Worcester) — to offer its sleep technology program to students from other regions.

Course work can be completed online, then students will travel to NECC's Lawrence campus one Saturday a month for clinical instruction in the college's state-of-the-art sleep laboratory. Students also will be required to complete a clinical experience at a sleep clinic near their home campus.

Registered sleep technologists are in high demand across with country, earning starting salaries of between $40,000 and $50,000 a year, according to John Murray, program and clinical coordinator of NECC's sleep technology program.

"All of the 19 students that graduated from our program in May are employed locally," he said.

The program is fully accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Programs. For more information about the program or the new hybrid option, contact John Murray at jmurray@necc.mass.edu or 978-738-7274.

MVFCU golf tourney raises $21,000

The Merrimack Valley Federal Credit Union's annual charity golf tournament was held June 14 at the Atkinson Resort & Country Club.

With this event, Merrimack Valley was able to raise $21,000 for its two official charities: the Merrimack Valley YMCA and Emmaus Inc. in Haverhill.

President and CEO Peter Matthews said, "The Merrimack Valley is very fortunate to have these two organizations serving those who need it most, and we are proud to be part of their efforts. From day care and after-school programs to basic housing and job training programs, the Y and Emmaus are vital to our communities."

Every year, Merrimack Valley Federal Credit Union raises money through ongoing charitable efforts and events with employees and members.

Soon the credit union will host its third annual Flea Market for Charity on Sept. 11, and a drawing for a big-screen TV this fall.
