Assisted living center nears completion

NORTH ANDOVER — Brightview North Andover, a 133-apartment community for seniors, is rapidly nearing completion on the site of the former Boston Hill Ski Area on Route 114.

Michael Reed, executive director of the center, said the community will open Aug. 26. The apartments will be rented to people over age 62, he said. There will be 65 homes for independent tenants, 41 assisted living apartments and 27 units for people with Alzheimer’s disease or other memory disabilities.

Many prospective tenants have inquired about Brightview and 26 have committed to moving in as soon as construction is completed, Reed said. He had just completed giving a tour of the facility to an older woman when he spoke to The Eagle-Tribune on Monday afternoon.

The independent living apartments will be ideal for people who “don’t need their house anymore,” Reed said.

Each apartment will have a full kitchen – but the tenants can eat their meals at the center, he said. Maintenance will be taken care of by the staff.

The care provided to assisted living tenants will be customized for each person’s wants and needs, Reed said. A nurse will be on the site seven days a week.

A highly-trained staff will provide care for residents of Wellspring Village, where people with memory challenges will live. Again, care will be tailored to each tenant’s needs, Reed said.

The center will provide transportation to stores and medical appointments, he said.

“Seniors are living longer” and they want to stay as active as possible, Reed noted. Brightview will have a movie theater, a fitness room and a library, he said. He hopes to work out a partnership with North Andover High School whereby students would help the residents with computers, he said.

Reed has already reached out to the North Andover Senior Center, he said, in an effort to share programs and activities. Residents will also have the opportunity to take courses at Merrimack College, just about a mile west on Route 114, he said.
