---- — ANDOVER – A man police say has a heroin problem was arrested and charged with stealing jewelry from his grandmother Tuesday evening.
Roger Couture, 27, of 72 Hancock St., Everett, was charged with five counts of larceny over $250 from a person over the age of 60, larceny under $250, possession of heroin and possession of heroin with intent to distribute.
Police were alerted to the alleged thefts by relatives of the grandmother, who resides in Andover, according to a report filed with Lawrence District Court by Patrolman Justin Murray, who arrested Couture.
Police placed the value of the stolen jewelry at more than $9,000. Before his arrest, Couture sold a 24-karat gold bracelet to a pawn shop in Revere for $1,500, according to Murray’s report. The pawn shop said it would not sell the bracelet pending the investigation, police said.
Lawrence District Court Judge Michael Brooks released Couture on his own recognizance pending a pretrial conference Dec. 13.
