Complaints about erratic driving lead to DWI arrest

By Paul Tennant

---- — METHUEN — Numerous calls about an erratic driver on Interstate 495 last night led to a drunken driving arrest, state police said.

Joseph Fonzo, 62, of Malden, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of liquor and a marked lanes violation. The 2011 Chevrolet Cruise he was driving was impounded and towed by Trombly's.

Troopers assigned to the Andover state police barracks stopped Fonzo between the Route 110 and Route 213 exits on the northbound side of I-495 at around 7 p.m., according to Trooper Thomas Murphy, state police spokesman.

State police had received many calls about a vehicle being driven erratically on the highway, Murphy said. Traffic was slowed down for several minutes while Fonzo's car was loaded on a Trombly's truck.
