---- — NORTH ANDOVER — Ex-Sen. Scott Brown is not the only person who has decided not to run for office this year.
Numerous North Andover residents have also decided to take a pass on campaigning. The 5 p.m. Friday deadline for taking out nomination papers for the town’s March 26 election came and went and local voters will have only one contested race.
Zora Warren, a former social studies teacher and Mark Mezzina, a college student, are the only names that will appear on the ballot for a three-year position on the School Committee.
Christine Allen, whose term expires this year, decided against seeking re-election.
Selectman Rosemary Connelly Smedile, first elected to the board 12 years ago, is unopposed for a fifth three-year term. Smedile owns and operates Connelly Real Estate and served on the Finance Committee before her election to the Board of Selectmen.
Also unopposed is Housing Authority board member Mary Beth Soucy, who is running for a full five-year term. Soucy was appointed to the Housing Authority board to replace her mother, Helen Soucy, who died in May 2008. She was then elected to fill the remainder of the term.
