Tasty fundraiser to benefit Hermann Youth Center

NORTH ANDOVER – Those who enjoy eating tasty morsels and helping the youth of North Andover will have the opportunity to participate in both activities March 9.

That’s when the annual Taste of North Andover, which raises money for the Joseph N. Hermann Youth Center, will take place. The event will be held at the center, 33 Johnson St., from 7 to 11 p.m.

The fundraiser features food from local restaurants. Sixteen restaurants have committed to contributing their products to the affair, according to William McCarthy, one of the organizers.

“It sells out every year,” McCarthy said. Besides food, the Taste of North Andover includes a live and silent auctions, where people can bid on sports tickets, a plenitude of gift certificates and a wide variety of other items.

This year’s Taste of North Andover comes on the 25th anniversary of the center, which was established with a $15,000 state grant in 1988. The center is named for the late state Rep. Joseph Hermann, D-North Andover, who was instrumental in obtaining that grant.

Hermann served in the Legislature from 1977 until his death in May 1993.

To purchase tickets, at $50 each, visit www.nayouth.com. Those who buy their tickets before Feb. 18 will be entered in a raffle for a $100 prize.
