LAWRENCE — A total of $23,000 was taken from a Sovereign Bank ATM in the parking lot at 4 Union St., police said.
Detective Ryan Guthrie was nearby when the call went out to check the ATM, and when he arrived about 11:55 a.m. Monday, found the machine leaning against the inside wall of ATM shelter.
The rear door to access the machine was damaged and the locking mechanism was broken off.
The dead bolt lock was on the ground next to the door.
Detective Sgt, Gene Hatem said bank security officials determined that $23,000 was taken.
According to police reports an alarm for 4 Union St. came in about 12:54 a.m. Monday, and a cruiser was dispatched, but everything was reported to be secure at that time.
