---- — LAWRENCE — Police arrested a 14-year-old boy who was pointing a BB gun at passing cars outside the Guilmette School at dismissal Monday afternoon.
The Providence Street boy was arrested and charged with disturbance of a school, disorderly conduct and minor in possession of a BB gun or air rifle in public.
Police got a call just before 3 p.m. after the boy was seen “pulling the gun out of his pants and pointing it at cars as they pass by,” according to a report by Detective Paul Rossi. The caller told police she was very concerned because the Guilmette and Bruce schools were dismissing.
“She didn’t know if the gun was a toy but there was a large crowd of kids around him and he was a lot taller than the other kids,” wrote Rossi, noting hundreds of kids were leaving the school and walking in the area.
Police soon learned an eighth-grade student, who has a prior car theft conviction, was showing off a gun to other kids at Bruce School earlier in the day. Rossi and Officer Jonathan Armano went to the boy’s home to investigate. The youth was patted down for weapons and handcuffed. A black BB gun was found in the boy’s back pack, Rossi wrote.
Rossi noted the “BB gun looked extremely real and had warnings that it can cause serious injury or death.” The weapon was placed into evidence.
