Nevins library offers babysitting course

---- — METHUEN — The Nevins Memorial Library will be partnering with the When Seconds Count company to offer a two-day baby-sitting certification course during April vacation week.

Teens in grades 6 – 9 who are aged 11 – 15 are invited to register for this course. Students must attend both dates of April 16 and 18 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The $80 course fee must be paid before the first class; checks may be made out to Nevins Memorial Library.

The course teaches characteristics of children; basic care such as feeding, changing and holding; supervising and playing with children; accident prevention; proper emergency response and basic first aid for common injuries and illnesses.

At the end of the course the students will receive a certificate stating that they have completed the course and all materials will be provided by When Seconds Count.

Classes are designed for working professionals and are held once a week in the evening or in an intensive format.

Your experience and education may qualify you to waive the GMAT or GRE requirement and waive Core MBA courses. It may take less time than you think to complete an AACSB accredited MBA degree.

Annual charity gala and auction April 27

ANDOVER — The Service Club of Andover’s Annual Charity Gala and Auction will feature WBZ-TV sports anchor and celebrity Dan Roche.

The Emmy award-winning Roche will bring his two decades of Boston sports coverage to entertain at the club’s annual fundraising event that supports the organization’s significant work in the area of youth and adults with developmental disabilities and other youth programming.

This year’s event will be held on Saturday, April 27 at 6 p.m. at the Andover Country Club.

This year’s auction will again be highlighted with the presentation of the “Make a Difference Award” presented to an individual or group that has made a major impact in the areas of the Club’s mission. NECC to host Campus Classic 5K, Fun Run on May 4

Northern Essex Community College will hold its first annual Campus Classic 5K and Fun Run on Saturday, May 4.

The USATF certified 5K race will begin at 10 a.m. on the college’s Haverhill Campus, 100 Elliott St., and wind through the rural campus and the surrounding residential neighborhood. Competitive runners — as well as novices and walkers — are invited to participate.

The race is part of the Merrimack Valley Striders 2013 Super Iron Runner Series. Registration for the 5K is $25 before April 29; $30 after that date. Online registration will remain open until April 29.

Children ages 12 and under are invited to participate in the Fun Run which is organized by age group with the first race beginning at 9 a.m. Registration for the Fun Run is $10. Following the race, there will be children’s activities including face painting and an obstacle course.

The first 200 5K registrants and the first 50 Fun Run participants receive T-shirts.

5K Awards will be given to the top male and female overall plus age divisions: 14 and under, 15-18, 19-25, 26-30, 31-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60+. All Fun Run participants will receive an award.

Since this is a Campus Classic, participants are encouraged to wear apparel from their own college as they run or walk. Proceeds from the race will benefit the NECC Annual Fund, which provides support for student scholarships and academic programs.
