NORTH ANDOVER — A rabid skunk was found by a resident of Breckinridge Road last Wednesday, according to Health Director Susan Sawyer.
The resident noticed the skunk exhibited strange behavior and called police. An officer euthanized the skunk and it was taken to the state Department of Public Health laboratory, where it tested positive for the rabies virus, Sawyer said.
The skunk may have had some interaction with a dog, but none with a human, she said. Sawyer said residents should exercise extreme caution around any wild mammal, especially raccoons, bats, skunks and foxes.
