ANDOVER — Before she was elected to the North Andover School Committee in 2007, Chris Allen learned the basics of campaigning at a workshop sponsored by the League of Women Voters.
"I was very glad that I went," said Allen. "It's the rules for running for office. You might not notice that there are details you need to pay attention to."
This year, the league's annual Running for Office Workshop will be on Wednesday at the Town Hall.
The workshop will be hosted by Andover Town Clerk Randy Hanson and North Andover Town Clerk Joyce Bradshaw, who will discuss the legal and financial aspects of running for office.
"You don't have to be an announced candidate," said Peggy Kruse, chairwoman of the league's voter service committee. "Some people are interested in running, but are a little scared, or don't know what it entails."
Allen, now two years into her three-year term on the School Committee, and Andover Selectman Alex Vispoli will give tips on the basics of campaigning.
Michael Sullivan, director the state Office of Campaign Finance, will discuss legal issues related to campaign finance guidelines.
"If you haven't run for office or held office, you might not be aware of the nuances of campaign finance," said Allen. "It's really nice to have someone from the state tell you what you can and cannot do."
