Events to watch this Inauguration Day
Swearing-in ceremony begins at 11:30 a.m. outside the U.S. Capitol
Highlights will include:
Musical selection: Aretha Franklin
Vice President-elect Joseph R. Biden Jr. will be sworn into office by Supreme Court Associate Justice John Paul Stevens
Musical selection: John Williams, composer/arranger with Itzhak Perlman, Yo-Yo Ma, Gabriela Montero and Anthony McGill.
President-elect Barack H. Obama will take the oath of office, administered by Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr.
Inaugural address
Poem written and performed by inaugural poet Elizabeth Alexander
The inaugural luncheon will be after the address in the Capitol's Statuary Hall.
The 56th inaugural parade will begin about 2:30 p.m.
Participating groups include:
A NASA astronaut crew and NASA lunar electric rover
The Jesse White Tumbling Team from Illinois
Tuskegee Airmen of Nebraska
Wong People Kung-Fu Association of Washington, D.C.
Get a Life Marching Band of Oregon.
Girl Scouts, Troops 1803 & 382, from Maryland.
At 7 p.m., Obama hosts the first-ever Neighborhood Ball. The event will be broadcast on ABC from 8 to 10 p.m. Musical performers will include Beyonce, Mary J. Blige, Mariah Carey, Faith Hill, Jay-Z, Alicia Keys, Shakira, Stevie Wonder and Nick Cannon.

Obama Home States (Illinois and Hawaii) Inaugural Ball at the Washington Convention Center.
Biden Home States (Pennsylvania and Delaware) Inaugural Ball at the Washington Convention Center.
Eastern Inaugural Ball at Union Station.
Youth Inaugural Ball at the Washington Hilton.
