Talk on St. Augustine scheduled at Merrimack

NORTH ANDOVER — Speaker, writer and pastor Martin Marty will draw upon the wisdom of St. Augustine about traveling the way in a lecture this Thursday at Merrimack College.

The talk is called, "Traveling with a travelin' man: St. Augustine's Revised Vision for Us."

Marty will address the experience of being in constant motion while seeming to get nowhere, of working harder and longer with apparently less and less to show for the effort.

It's part of the annual "City of God" lecture presented by the Augustinian Center for Study and Legacy at the college. It is made possible by the Joseph A. and Rose M. Lorusso Visiting Augustinian Scholar Endowment Fund.

The event is Thursday at 3:30 p.m. at Cascia Hall, and is free and open to the public.

Service Academy nominee honored

LOWELL — Congresswoman Niki Tsongas recently honored a Lawrence teenager, along with 15 others, who has been selected as a nominee for appointment to the U.S. Military, Naval, Air Force, and Merchant Marine Academies.

Roberto Garcia of Lawrence High School will be going to the Naval Academy prep school.

Only a handful of students nationwide are admitted to the U.S. Service Academies each year. Prospective students must meet strict academic qualifications and are interviewed and recommended by a non-partisan Academy Selection Board appointed by Congresswoman Tsongas.

Students interested in attending one of the Service Academies can visit Congresswoman Tsongas' Web site, www.tsongas.house.gov, for more information about the application process.
