---- — ANDOVER — One person was trapped and Interstate-495 Southbound was completely shut down for nearly an hour due to an accident involving a tractor-trailer and several other vehicles earlier this morning, State Police said.

The accident, which occurred around 6:15 a.m., forced police to shut the road while rescue crews freed a person whose legs were trapped in their car. As of about 7:45 a.m., all lanes had been opened, but traffic was still backed up for miles.

Traffic back-ups were reported all over Andover, particularly on Route 133. And traffic was backed up on 495 South approximately 10 miles to Route 213 in Methuen.

The person whose legs were trapped was conscious and alert, police said. There were one or two other injuries as well.

Police and fire crews are clearing from the scene, but the accident reconstruction team was still on-scene as of 7:45 a.m.
