---- — ANDOVER — A quick response by firefighters to a basement fire at 3 Lovejoy Road early last night knocked down the one alarm-blaze in less than 30 minutes and kept it from spreading to the rest of the house.
“It could have been a lot worse,” Andover Fire Department Deputy Chief Al DelDotto said last night. “Most of the damage was confined to the cellar. Most of the belongings are going to be salvageable,” he said.
No estimate was available on the extent of the damage, which DelDotto said involved fire, smoke and water damage in the basement, and smoke damage on the first floor.
The residents were home at the time of the blaze and called 911, which brought a quick response, he said.
Lawrence and Tewksbury fire crews provided coverage of local stations while town firefighters were on Lovejoy Road, which runs off Dascomb Road
The cause of the fire remained under investigation last night.
