Report downed wires to Lawrence Fire Dept.

LAWRENCE - As winds intensify this afternoon, city firefighters are prepared to handle downed power wire reports across the city, Fire Chief Jack Bergeron said this morning.

Residents are asked to call (978) 620-3403 and report any power lines ripped down by Hurricane Sandy, Bergeron said.

“If they see the wires down anywhere, call us,” Bergeron said.

Power outages should be reported separately to National Grid, he said.

Bergeron met with Mayor William Lantigua and city department heads to discuss storm preparedness, he said. Contact numbers for a variety of agencies and city departments will be posted on the city website, cityoflawrence.com.

No major problems have been reported to the fire department so far this morning, Bergeron said.
He anticipates damage in the the city will be caused by downed trees and power lines today between noon and 9 p.m.

“All of the trucks are fully staffed with four man crews ... We are ready to respond,” he said.

Public works crews were also out before the storm cleaning out catch basins and sewer drains in flood prone areas across the city, he said.
