North Andover Police: Alleged intruder ran from, then fought with officers

NORTH ANDOVER — A man who startled the residents of a Main Street home by banging on the door late Thursday night ended up getting arrested on several charges, police said.

Officer Michael Gilligan went to the house at 11:30 p.m. after a resident there called to report the disturbance, according to police Lt. Charles Gray.

When Gilligan arrived, the intruder ran way, Gray said. Gilligan and Officer Christopher Smedile caught him after a short chase, but the suspect fought with them, Gray said.

Brian Sullivan, 21, of 110 Farnum St., was arrested and charged with assault and battery, resisting arrest, assault and battery on a police officer and trespassing.

Sullivan was taken to Lawrence General Hospital for evaluation, Gray said.
