LAWRENCE — Two people were arrested after police broke up a large party in a vacant apartment on the second floor of 28 Avon St. just after midnight Sunday morning.
Juan Lara, 20, of 109 Lowell St., #1, and Jose Rivera, 17, of 32 Savoie Ave., Lawrence, were charged with trespassing after they were identified as the DJs of the party. They told police they had permission from the first-floor tenant to have the party.
Police were originally called about reports of a loud party with minors drinking and smoking.
When they arrived, police found people walking along the side of the house and they could hear loud music from the second floor. Patrolman Ariel Montas wrote in his report that he approached the locked side door, where a sign read that admission was $1, and knocked several times. A large male who admitted to being “the bouncer,” answered the door but left after police asked him to.
Montas and Patrolman Patrick Noonan then climbed the stairs to the second floor where they found 70 to 80 people crowded into an apartment that had no furniture or power. An extension cord from the first floor was powering the DJ equipment. The heavy smell of marijuana was in the air. They dispersed the crowd, but not before identifying the DJs and arresting two of them on trespassing charges after dispersing the crowd that had gathered outside.
