ANDOVER — Thieves stole all of the tires from four cars in Andover and North Andover early Thursday morning.
In Andover, two Bullfinch Drive residents found their cars without tires Wednesday morning in what police are saying are related tire thefts.
Police were first called to Bullfinch Drive at 7:27 a.m. after a resident reported that all four wheels were taken from his vehicle.
Just under two hours later, a second car with Massachusetts veteran plates on Bullfinch Drive was found missing its wheels.
Both cars were found on stone blocks, according to Andover police Lt. Lee Britton. The thefts are related, police said.
Two North Andover residents reported similar incidents. The wheels were removed from cars at 5 Fernview Ave. and 160 Kingston St. Both vehicles are Hondas and were left on milk crates, police said.
North Andover police Lt. Charles Gray said it’s likely the thefts were done by people who “knew what they were doing” because they were able to remove all four wheels from each car without being detected.
Gray pointed out Fernview Avenue and Kingston Street are both close to Route 125, thus enabling the thieves to make a quick exit. Unless one owns a garage, the most effective ways of preventing wheels from being stolen is to park a car in a lighted area or install locking lug nuts, Gray said.
