St. Rose downs Merrimack women's basketball

---- — ALBANY, N.Y. — The Merrimack men’s basketball team held a 10-point lead midway through the second half, but host Saint Rose rallied for a 76-72 win.

Freshman J.T. Strickland led the Warriors with 18 points, Mike Clifford added 12 points and Kevin Regan had 10.

Tyler Sayre scored a game-high 19 for the Golden Knights (9-7, 6-6 NE-10).

Merrimack (7-10, 4-8 NE-10), which has lost four of its last five, hosts AIC Saturday at 3 p.m. The women’s game is at 1 p.m.

Polce leads upset

ALBANY, N.Y. — Merrimack received a technical before the game even started. It was that kind of night for the Warriors, who were upset by St. Rose 66-65.

The hosts hit two free throws with seven second left. Merrimack missed a late 3-pointer and the offensive rebound hoop was too little too late.

Jaclyn Lyons led the Warriors (11-5, 7-5 NE-10) with 17 points, Ashley Weissmann added 15 and freshman Tia Scott added a career-high 13. Central Catholic grad Gabie Polce led the Golden Knights (5-10, 2-9 NE-10) with 17 points in 39 minutes.
