St. Augustine's holds Shawl Tea

---- — ANDOVER — Communities Together Inc., formerly The Greater Lawrence Council of Churches, and St. Augustine Parish in Andover will sponsor the 10th Annual Interfaith Prayer Shawl Tea at St. Augustine Parish, Center for Education and Ministry, 35 Essex St., Andover on Tuesday, Sept. 17, From 2 to 3:30 p.m.

Come celebrate the Prayer Shawl Ministry and offer shawls for a blessing by clergy.

Speaker, Colette Crowley, Chaplain at Lowell General Hospital, has titled her remarks, “Wrapped in Love.” Anne Daly, LICSW, Social Worker at Edgewood Retirement Community, will share “Reflections on the Prayer Shawl Tea and Ministry.”

Pentucket Players to hold auditions

LAWRENCE — Pentucket Players Inc., celebrating its 20th anniversary season, will hold open auditions for Rogers and Hammerstein’s classic musical play, “The King & I” on Aug. 24 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for children ages 6 to 12, including the role of Louis Leonowens and the King’s children, and on Aug. 25 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for teenagers and adults, including the role of Prince Chulalongkorn.

Both auditions will be held at the Lawrence Heritage Museum, second floor, 1 Jackson St., Lawrence. The play is being directed by John Buzzell of Haverhill and produced by Marie Bliven of Methuen. The Pentucket Players are hoping for a cast of 50, including 20 children.

Food, Wine and Beer Pairing event on tap

GEORGETOWN — Off to the Races, a Food, Wine and Beer Pairing to benefit Merrimack Valley Hospice will be held on Sept. 12 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Black Swan Country Club in Georgetown.

Guests will experience some of the world’s most famous places and races from the Alaskan Iditarod to the Monaco Grand Prix, along with accompanying cuisine and beverages and entertainment by the George Farrell Group and NuImage Entertainment. A signature silent auction will feature nearly 100 items including a well-stocked wine refrigerator, premium tickets to New England sporting events, unique dining experiences and more.

Free seminar on concussion and youth sports

METHUEN — “Concussion and Youth Sports — Keeping Their Heads in the Game,” a Medical Meet the Expert seminar with Orthopedic Surgeon Tahsin Ergin, MD, and certified athletic trainer Amy Wiggins will be held on Tuesday from 6 to 7 p.m. in Holy Family Hospital’s ground-floor auditorium.

Attendees will learn the nature of concussion injury, variability in response and recovery, current consensus recommendations for management of concussion in the young adult, and what concussion testing is, how it works and how results are used. Admission is free. Registration is required. Light refreshments will be served. One contact hour in nursing is awarded.

Golf tourney/event planned

METHUEN — The second annual Golf & Gourmet, Back to Business free golf and free networking event will be held on Aug. 28 at the Merrimack Valley Golf Club, 210 Howe St., Methuen.

This event, hosted and sponsored by Simply Elegant Catering and Merrimack Valley Golf Club, is being held in collaboration with the area’s premier business organizations. Led by the Greater Haverhill Chamber of Commerce, the event is also being presented by the Amesbury Chamber of Commerce, Greater Lowell Chamber of Commerce, Greater Newburyport Chamber of Commerce, Greater Salem, N.H., Chamber of Commerce, Salisbury Chamber of Commerce, Methuen Board of Trade, and the Plaistow Area Commerce Exchange.

Merrimack Valley Golf Club will offer a free round of nine holes of golf to all who attend. Tee times are between 1 and 2:30 p.m. A free mixer is in the banquet hall. Guests can network, socialize and inquire about the chambers and can meet each chamber’s staff, Board of Directors and the hosts. Complimentary food will be provided by Simply Elegant Catering.
