LAWRENCE — Two men were arrested early Monday morning after being caught smashing a glass window of a Lawrence Street store and stealing jeans and jewelry, police said.
Video surveillance cameras showed one suspect throwing a large rock at the window of Zapatazo at 178 Lawrence St. around 3:20 a.m.
Arrested were Luis Fernandez, 42, 85 Arlington St., Lawrence, and Luis Resto, 44, of Manchester, N.H. They were both charged with nighttime breaking and entering and malicious destruction of property over $250.
The surveillance video showed the men stealing jeans and assorted jewelry, according to the police report.
Police initially were unable to find Fernandez and Resto after they fled the scene but they were arrested around 4:39 a.m. after the store owner and a friend noticed they had returned to the area and called police.
