Methuen tree lighting is Sunday

METHUEN — The city’s annual tree lighting is Sunday at Nevins Memorial Library, 305 Broadway.

The event begins at 4 p.m. with a performance by the Comprehensive and Marsh grammar schools chorus. Santa Claus will be in the library fireplace room for photos. At 5 p.m., Santa will escort visitors outside for music by DJ Donna and the Center for Performing Arts. The tree lighting ceremony starts at 5:30 p.m.

Parking is available at Nevins Library and the Quinn Building, 90 Hampshire St. Shuttle Service is available from City Hall between 3:30 and 6:30 p.m.

METHUEN — The following is a list of December events at the Methuen Senior Activity Center, 77 Lowell St.:

-Dec. 11, 12 to 4 p.m.: Join us for “An Edwardian Tea & Ornament Making Workshop.” Rita Parisi of Waterfall Productions, in character as “Mrs. Gordon,” will transport you back to Christmas 1908, sharing stories and traditions from her time. Audience members will then get to make their very own cornucopia holiday ornament to take home. This free event is sponsored by the Methuen Arts Lottery Commission and is open to the public. All are invited to the annual Holiday Open House and Christmas Concert on Dec. 13. Highlights of the day include: complimentary coffee hour 9 to 10 a.m., an all-day jewelry sale and Happy Hearts Choral Group concert at 1 p.m. Admission is free, but donations of non-perishable food items for Lazarus House Ministries will be accepted. Come enjoy a merry selection of holiday music and refreshments to celebrate the season.

Come enjoy a free holiday concert Dec. 16 at 2 p.m. featuring the Timberlane Band, a 60-piece concert band. Open to the public. Refreshments will be served.

Join us for a New Year’s Eve Dinner/Dance on Dec. 31 to ring in the New Year! Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Prime rib dinner served at 7 p.m. Music for Dancing from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. by Boots & Company. Tickets are available at $50 per person in the main office, but space is limited so stop by today! Call 978-983-8825 for more details.
