---- — LAWRENCE β€” Police are getting to know the TD Bank at 305 S. Broadway very well.

They responded to it for the third time in 10 days yesterday, after a car accidentally drove into the building around 12:30 p.m. The previous two calls involved the bank being robbed.

Ana Fragoso, 42, 10 Weare St., Lawrence, was looking behind her, attempting to back out of a parking space, when she drove her 2004 Audi directly into the side of the building, leaving a 6-by-6 foot hole.

β€œIt seems as if she thought she was in reverse, when she was actually in drive,” Police Chief John Romero said.

He added that the crash seems to be accidental, and neither alcohol nor drugs were a factor.

Police were last called to the bank on March 28, when a masked man carrying a handgun walked into the bank and demanded an unknown amount of money from the teller. A masked man with a hand gun robbed the bank again Wednesday, getting away with an undisclosed sum of money.

Police believe the same man was responsible for both robberies.

Fragoso was slightly shaken and embarrassed after the crash but was not injured, according to the police report written by patrol officer George Wood. Romero said Fragoso was not trying to enter the bank.

Police did not issue Fragoso any citations.

The city building inspector said the structure was repairable.

The car had heavy front end damage.

Business at the bank was not heavily disrupted, as the bank was closing for the day at 1 p.m.
