Man arrested on drug, resisting arrest charges

The Eagle-Tribune

---- — LAWRENCE — A Dedham man was arrested Thursday afternoon at the Hess gas station on Broadway and charged with possession of drugs and resisting arrest, after police said they watched him inject heroin in the CVS parking lot.

Jason Soto, 32, was charged with possession of a Class A drug, heroin, possession of a Class E drug, clonopin, with intent to distribute, and resisting arrest.

Officers from the city’s Street Narcotics Enforcement Unit was conducting mobile surveillance around 5:30 p.m. when they noticed Soto in a Saab 9-5 with New Hampshire plates parked in the CVS parking lot, 266 Broadway.

He was observed sitting in the driver’s seat for several minutes, making motions consistent with mixing heroin and packing a glass pipe with crack cocaine, according to Lawrence Police Det. Dean Murphy’s report.

Soto then drove to the Hess station, 615 Broadway, parked in front of the gas pumps and went in the store. While he was inside, Det. Carmen Purpora walked past the vehicle and noticed drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle, according to police.

As Soto was walking back to his vehicle, Purpora and Murphy approached him and asked to speak with him. He jumped into his car and locked the door, police said. As officers watched, he reached into the back of the car and the front passenger’s seat “in an excited manner” as if trying to hide or destroy evidence, Murphy said.

At that point, Purpora reached into the car and after a brief struggle pulled Soto out, police said.

After officers interviewed him at the scene, Soto admitted he had just bought $20 worth of heroin and shot it intravenously while parked at CVS, police said. A search of him turned up 67 Class E Clonazapam (clonopin) pills as well as $520 in cash, 2 Class E Suboxone patches, and 20 more pills of Chlorpromazine, also a Class E drug, police said.

Two arrested on drug, weapon charges

ANDOVER — Police arrested two New Hampshire residents on drug and weapon charges after finding their car was unregistered and seeing other “suspicious activity” worthy of further investigation, police said.

Arrested were Nicole Fahey, 29, and Arthur Pudims Jr., 35, both of Newmarket, N.H., according to police reports.

Both were charged with possession of a class A drug and possession of a class B drug. In addition, Pudims was also charged with selling or possessing an electric stun gun and two counts of carrying a dangerous weapon, according to reports. The arrests happened around 2 p.m. Wednesday on River Road after police learned the car was unregistered and saw “suspicious activity that aroused the officer’s suspicion,” Andover Police Lt. Harry Collins said.

While the incident began as a drug arrest, police found a stun gun, knife and brass knuckles in the car as well, Collins said.

“Brass knuckles are illegal in Mass., and he didn’t have a permit for a stun gun in Mass but he was a New Hampshire resident,” Collins said.
