NORTH ANDOVER — Three hundred people turned out for the Bassman's Ball on Saturday night.
The sold-out event raised more than $10,000 for the Timothy P. Roberts Reeling in a Dream fund, which is run through the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. The fund allows young adults battling cancer — generally those 18 to 30 — to enjoy things like trips to big cities, video games and laptop computers.
Timothy Roberts, a 2002 graduate of North Andover High School, died on Aug. 25, 2005, at the age of 22 after a yearlong battle with esophageal cancer.
His family and friends created the Reeling in a Dream fund — named after Roberts' love for fishing, to fulfill his goal of helping others.
"Bass man" was Tim's screen name on his instant messenger account.
The evening, including a silent auction, raffles and dancing, was at the Elks Lodge in Lawrence.
