METHUEN — A total of 214 people participated in the first Gail Polizzotti 5K Road Race & Walk on Saturday.
The event raised $11,746.63, according to Nicole Wilson, who organized the race in honor of her mother, Gail Polizzotti, who died of uterine cancer on June 18, 2003, at the age of 50. Wilson's goal was to raise $10,000.
The money will be donated to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
People who attended the race got fliers to go to Texas Roadhouse last night, where 10 percent of their bills would be donated to the cause, Wilson said. Additional people also planned to send checks to further increase the fundraising total, Wilson said. Wilson plans to make the race, which began and ended at Methuen High School, an annual event.
