Sgt. Jimenez was missing 424 days

May 12: Four soldiers are killed in an al-Qaida attack on a U.S. convoy in Iraq. Three are identified. Pfc. Alex Jimenez, 25, of Lawrence, is reported missing. Also gone are Pvt. Byron Fouty, 19, of Waterford, Mich., and Pfc. Joseph Anzack Jr., 20, of Torrance, Calif. An intense military search begins for the missing men.

May 16: News of Jimenez's capture breaks, prompting an outpouring of support and vigils from the Lawrence community.

May 18: DNA tests confirm Jimenez is not the fourth dead soldier. It is Sgt. Anthony J. Schober, 23, of Reno, Nev.

May 22: Anzack's body is found in the Euphrates River. The search for Jimenez and Fouty continues.

June 3: al-Qaida militants release a video claiming to have killed Jimenez and Fouty. No proof is offered.

June 9: Jimenez and Fouty's IDs are found in an abandoned al-Qaida safehouse, more than 75 miles from where they were captured.

June 19: Jimenez's wife, Yaderlin Hiraldo, 23, faces deportation, her lawyers say. Yaderlin is an illegal immigrant from the Dominican Republic.

June 21: The U.S. Department of Homeland Security allows Hiraldo to apply for permanent resident status.

June 28: Jimenez's status is officially changed from "whereabouts unknown" to "missing/captured."

Oct. 11: Jimenez's M249 semi-automatic weapon is found seven miles north of where he was ambushed.

Dec. 27: Two suspects allegedly involved in ambush and capture detained by U.S. troops.

May 23, 2008: Jimenez and Fouty families attend memorial services in Washington, D.C. and meet President Bush.

July 10, 2008: Military officials tell Jimenez and Fouty families their sons' bodies were recovered.
