HAVERHILL — A man and his girlfriend have been arrested for allegedly selling cocaine from the Walgreens Pharmacy on Main Street where the woman worked at the cosmetics counter.
Detective Sgt. John Arahovites said customers would call the drug dealer, identified as Luis Ledesma, 26, of 19 Arlington St., via cell phone and he would send them to the cosmetics department at the pharmacy, where they would meet up with his girlfriend, Enery Fernandez, 27, of 22 Nichols St.
Fernandez would then take the drug customer to the back employee hallway or the restrooms, where the drug transaction would take place, Arahovites said.
Fernandez was arrested about 12:45 p.m. yesterday as she worked at the cosmetics counter at the 301 Main St. store.
She was charged with distribution of cocaine, possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, and conspiracy to violate drug laws.
Ledesma was arrested a few minutes later at his residence a block from the store, Arahovites said.
Police seized five bags of rock cocaine with a street value of $500 and $120 in cash.
Fernandez was awaiting bail at the police station late yesterday afternoon, Arahovites said.
When she was arrested, Fernandez had three bags of cocaine concealed in her brassiere and a smaller quantity in her purse in the employee locker room, Arahovites said.
Ledesma, whose street name is "Shaundo," was being held without bail on a charge of distribution of cocaine, second or subsequent offense, Arahovites said.
Both were to be arraigned today in Haverhill District Court.
The arrests capped a three-month investigation that included undercover drug buys, Arahovites said.
Derek Turmenne, manager of the Walgreens Pharmacy, declined to comment on the arrest yesterday.
