LAWRENCE — A city man faces deportation following his conviction for heroin trafficking.
Juan Deleon, 32, of 16 Wendell St., who also uses the name Jose Almonte, pleaded guilty yesterday in Lawrence District Court. He is being held in Middleton jail while he awaits deportation proceedings.
Deleon managed to elude authorities for more than eight months following a raid on his apartment in July 2006 by Street Narcotics Enforcement Unit detectives, who seized 25 grams of heroin and $500 cash, police reports say.
Deleon was arrested in March 2007, and served 550 days in jail before he was tried. He was sentenced to the time already served. Authorities seek to return him to the Dominican Republic.
