Ten candidates for mayor of Lawrence

Deadline for filing nomination papers was yesterday

LAWRENCE — They're off!

Ten residents are vying to succeed Mayor Michael Sullivan, who cannot run for a third term because of term limits.

Nomination papers, with at least 250 signatures, were due in the City Hall elections office by 5 p.m. yesterday.

All of the mayoral candidates, including a state representative, current and former city councilors, and a decorated Marine, returned their papers well before the deadline, said Rafael Tejeda, bilingual elections coordinator.

The race now heads to the Sept. 22 primary.

Here's who's running for mayor, City Council and School Committee:

David Abdoo of 54 Stevens Ave., Nilka Alvarez-Rodriguez of 21 Hoffman Ave., Patrick Blanchette of 215 Ferry St., Daniel Cotnoir of 256 Broadway, Marcos Devers of 16 Woodland Ave., Nunzio DiMarca of 7 Warwick Court, William Lantigua of 61 Oak St., Pedro Payano of 556 Haverhill St., Israel Reyes of 370 Ames St., and Julia Silverio of 92 Eutaw St.

COUNCILOR-AT-LARGE (three seats)
